All thou here in New Bern we were very fortunate and haven’t experienced destruction as in other parts of eastern North Carolina we are in the middle of another hurricane season and we shouldn’t ever underestimate mother nature. I just wanted to share some Hurricane Floyd facts and remind everyone to get prepared for possible storms and always have that emergency kit ready.

Total damage: More than $3 billion
Rainfall: 10 to 24 inches east of I-95
Deaths: 52
Private wells contaminated: 2,800
Lost telephone service: 65,000
Lost electricity: 1.2 million
Airports damaged: 23
Roads closed: 1,500
Downtowns submerged: 30
Businesses damaged: 60,000. $1 billion damage. $4 billion lost revenue.
Farms damaged: 32,000. $812 million damage and loss.
Homes damaged: 67,000. 17,000 destroyed.
Public shelters: 227, housing 67,000 people.
