Colonial ship sheduled to wrrive to New Bern today

Colonial ship scheduled to arrive today for 300th Anniversary Jubilee Weekend

The 16th century replica ship Elizabeth II is scheduled to arrive at the Grand Marina on the New Bern waterfront Wednesday afternoon for the New Bern Jubilee Weekend. It will remain docked behind The Hilton through the weekend, hosting area school groups Thursday and Friday. There will be no admission to tour the ship during the weekend.

The original Elizabeth was one of seven vessels in Sir Walter Raleigh's military expedition to the New World in 1885.

Thursday's Jubilee public event is the Jubilee Flotilla, with boats large and small scheduled to begin their cruise along the New Bern waterfront at 8 p.m.

Boat owners have been encouraged to decorate with lights and a 300th theme.

Haiti dance troupe to perform in New Bern




The Resurrection Dance Theater from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, will be making a stop in New Bern from Sept. 13 to 15, including performances for 2,500 school children and a public performance at Garber United Methodist Church. Make sure not to miss this exelent show by 11 dancers and drummers are all from the St. Joseph's Home for Boys in Haiti.

The internationally recognized dance troupe members are all from the St. Joseph's Home for Boys in Haiti. s, former street children and child slaves in Haiti who have performed all over the United States and Canada, including a performance before the Pope on World Youth Day in Canada.

The public performance, which is sponsored by Hearts With Haiti and Garber United Methodist Church, will be in Garber's Morris Hall at 7 p.m. Morris Hall is located at 4202 Country Club Road in Trent Woods.

For ticket information, contact the church office at 252-637-4022. Tickets for the public performance are $5 and credit card payment is accepted by phone. All proceeds from the performance will be donated to the St. Joseph's Home for Boys to help rebuild their home in Haiti.

Hurricane emergency supply list

As hurricane Earl is approaching and we all are hoping that we will not get much of the hurricane action here in New Bern it is still very good idea to get prepared. Hurricanes are very powerful storms and they do change their paths here and there. For your convince here is list of supplies you should have ready and handy

Water - at least 1 gallon daily per person for 3 to 7 days

Food - at least enough for 3 to 7 days
— non-perishable packaged or canned food / juices
— foods for infants or the elderly
— snack foods
— non-electric can opener
— cooking tools / fuel
— paper plates / plastic utensils

Blankets / Pillows, etc.

Clothing - seasonal / rain gear/ sturdy shoes

First Aid Kit / Medicines / Prescription Drugs

Special Items - for babies and the elderly
